No longer able to set specific duration for blocks

Hello;

i’ve been a paid Opal member since 2023 and this update is legitimately so awful this is my first time posting on this forum just so I can give feedback. Hopefully, this can be fixed immediately.

With this new update, when I try to edit my existing app limit blocks or even create a new one it looks like the ability to set a specific duration for my app limit block has been removed. For example, before I used to be able to block an app for 6 hours or 3 hours and 30 minutes however now the preset times are :15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour, OR tomorrow.

This is also the case for how long I want to use the app in question. For example, I used to be able to choose to use Instagram for 1 hour and 11 minutes and then it gets blocked for 2 hours and 22mins. Again now, I can only choose to use Instagram for 15, 30, or 1 hour

I genuinely don’t see the point in removing a feature that is integral to the app. Why do I no longer have the autonomy to set the specific amount of time I want. The gap between one hour of a hard block and then tomorrow, is huge.

I genuinely hope this gets fixed soon or I’m going to have to explore other apps. I also saw another post around here. Say that they can’t even see a breakdown of how long they’ve been using an app etc. I agree the new UI sucks but my biggest issue is the autonomy to set how long I want to use an app for and how long I want to block an app for down to the minute.

Thank you for your time.

Hi @doomscrollingbaddie, thank you for taking the time to write this up, and especially for sticking with Opal since 2023.

Two things to flag right away: if you’re on the latest version (4.2.1), both of these have been partially addressed.

The lock duration options (how long apps stay blocked after your limit is hit) now have a much wider chip set like 5m, 15m, 30m, 45m, 1h, 2h, 3h, 6h, and 12h instead of just 15m, 30m, 1h, and Tomorrow. That closes the big gap you described between 1h and “the rest of the day.”

That said, we hear you on the fully freeform picker and being able to set exactly 1h 11min or 2h 22min isn’t back yet. The current version uses a preset ladder rather than a free minute-by-minute picker. It’s on the list to restore and I’m making sure this feedback is logged as a vote for it.

Please update to 4.2.1 if you haven’t already, it should feel significantly better on duration control even if it’s not all the way back to where you want it.
