My subscription is set to renew on July 2, and sadly, I have come to a place where I will rely on the free experience / go to another app.
I have given the app all that I could since the update. I work in software engineering, so I know all about how difficult it is to roll out a redesign and fix all the resultant bugs. I applaud the engineering team for being so active in the past few weeks and fixing things that were broken.
I do not like the redesign one bit – the information density has been completely destroyed, and I don’t have enough flexibility to modify it for my use case. I totally get that retraining my workflows takes time, but I truly don’t understand why changes were made. It would be great to understand what was the intention behind it.
As frustrating as these have been, I have a deal breaker that I don’t see any path for restoration.
I had a shortcut / widget that allowed me to apply a block with basically 2 taps from my lock / home screen. I used an app list that blocked every app save 5 during my gym workouts so I can especially lock in. I can’t tell you how delightful it was to brick my phone in two taps.
That functionality seems completely broken.
- The widget is completely broken. I had it added as a shortcut to my control panel. Now that button is non-functional.
- All my app lists are gone. I had one for the gym, one for work, one for vacation. Now I am supposed to either create things one by one, or use the always allowed / never allowed / distracting lists? I read somewhere that this was restored in 4.2.2, but I don’t see it anywhere.
If there is a resolution to this, I might consider going back to the premium offering. But I am truly disappointed in how dramatic this new app update has been.
