Add apps to Block List during active Session/Time Limit/Open Limit in "No way, I'm hardcore" mode

Being able to add another blocked app to a deep session whilst you go along in case you find there’s something else that distracts you or you want to block

Yes! I totally agree. I understand not being able to remove apps but with the way my mind works, it seems like I always find a way to distract myself with other apps. I’d like to be able to add those when I realize they’re becoming a time drain.

i understand we can’t leave or stop deep focus mode, that’s the point, but at least allow us to add apps to it to be blocked while in deep focus as this is the only time I remember to add them, while I am using them but I can’t

I strongly agree. People who use an app as Opal obviously have a strong need to reduce their screentime, and because we need help with our self control, we may not always be mindful or willing enough to always impose restrictions on ourselves. It is therefore extra important that Opal lets us impose such restrictions whenever weā€˜re willing to do so.

For literally weeks I have been meaning to add apps to my deep focus blocking list, because I use them too much whilst this deep focus session is running, during my work day. When my work day is over I do other things and always forget to add these apps, and then deeps focus starts again, and again I am using these apps and cannot add them,

We should always be able to add stuff that distracts us, especially in those moments when we feel there is a strong need for it.

This is vital and I don’t see any reason whatsoever why this would be only highly beneficial.

I feel there should be a way for one to add an app to the restricted list while in a deep focus. Knowing me, I will add apps to this list on a deep focus and eventually go to that one app that I overlooked. Is there a way to do this?

Many thanks!

I understand we don’t want us to delete apps from the blocking list during a deep focus session, but we should be allowed to ADD apps to the blocking list. I just got distracted by a new app and can’t add that app to my deep focus session, and my session won’t end until 4am!

I want to be able to add MORE restrictions while in a blocking session (ideally without having to wait for a time limit or for the session to be over). For a few days now, I’ve only remembered I want to block a particular website while in a blocking session, and it’s bugging me!

Thanks team

Hey there @sam ,

I’m afraid you’re unable to change the apps and/or websites in your Block or Allow List during a Session by design, which is to help prevent Gems from removing blocks in the middle of a Session! That said, I’ve passed this suggestion of being able to add apps/websites to an active Block List along to our engineers to consider as we continue to upgrade the app. Stay tuned!

All the best,
Team Opal

Hey @Peds ,

Thanks for reaching out. I’ve just compiled all the requests for this feature into a single thread. Currently, I’m afraid you’re unable to change the apps and/or websites in your Block or Allow List during a Session by design, which is to help prevent Gems from removing blocks in the middle of a Session! That said, I’ve passed this suggestion of being able to add apps/websites to an active Block List along to our engineers to consider as we continue to upgrade the app; I am hoping it is prioritized soon. Stay tuned on that front!

I have my focus period on super strict mode, so I can’t edit my block list or take a break during it. My focus period is set my 9:30pm until 12pm the next day. All of my ā€œscrollā€ apps are blocked, except LinkedIn. I didn’t think to block it because I never use it. But now in the absence of my other apps, I’m using it. This is only an issue at night. By the time my focus period is over, I’ve forgotten all about LinkedIn and don’t remember until the next night during my focus period. It makes sense that I can’t remove anything from my block list during a strict focus period, but it would be so useful to add things to it that I learn are distracting during the focus period.

Hey there @Ciestupinan ,

Thanks for reaching out and for the feature request! We’ve had several requests for this in the past, so I’ve merged your request into the existing thread on the topic. I’ve also re-escalated this suggestion to our engineers as we continue to upgrade the app, as it’s been frequently requestd. Stay tuned on that front!

All the best,
Team Opal
